The Confraternity of The Blessed Sacrament
(CBS), founded in 1862, is the oldest devotional society in the Anglican
Communion for priests and the laity. The Confraternity exists for the
advancement of the Catholic faith within the Anglican tradition and in
particular to promote:
The honour due to Jesus Christ our Lord in The Blessed Sacrament of His Body and Blood
To pray for one another at the Eucharist
Careful preparation for, and reception of, Holy Communion, including the Eucharistic fast
The reverent and dignified celebration of the Eucharist and the reservation and veneration of The Blessed Sacrament
The continuance of the Catholic priesthood (CBS actively supports Forward in Faith, and provides grants to parishes to purchase Eucharistic vestments and vessels)
Catholic theological teaching, learning and development.
Rules
To take part in the celebration of the Eucharist on all Sundays, greater festivals and holy days whenever possible
To promote the reverent celebration of the Mass as the Church's daily offering
To make special intercessions as set out in the Quarterly Paper.
Members of CBS are known as Associates, and meet in local groups called Wards, which are geographically linked together into Districts. The Ward of Roath St. Martin is the only active Ward in South Wales. Its Associates come from twelve parishes across South Wales. Mass is offered for CBS once a month. As a Ward we meet once a quarter for a homily, Exposition, Vespers of The Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. For further details please contact the Ward Secretary, Dr. David A. Woolf. For more information on the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, visit it's national web site.
The Confraternity has been part of the life and witness of St. Martin’s for 95 years and has met regularly over this time.
